February 16 - President's Day. John's vacation day. Our family fun day. Our planned trip to California's Adventure. Did I mention fun day? Twas not to be, however. It NEVER rains here...our plans NEVER get spoiled. (Okay, maybe only when my folks come out does it rain...but whatever.) It rained BUCKETS! The entire day! We decided that we'd go to CA Adventure another day, and we thought that going to the Nixon Library would be a better choice. Such parenting novices we are!
Since it was raining incessantly, the trip took a long time. I like road trips, and so does William, so it was a fun time. We stopped at the OSF in Fullerton. We got a seat close to the train tracks, and during our meal we got to see at least 4-5 trains go by. (William does a great choo choo sound!) For all my in-laws reading this, I will say that I ordered the mizithra and clam, but John! Horror of horrors, ordered the meatloaf! Meatloaf!?! I felt betrayed. (He did let me try it, and it was good, in his defence.) William is a clam lover! Sorry...know that little menu diversion only makes sense if you're in my fam!
After eating John decided to take William up to the top of the bridge to watch the next Amtrak train come in. Since we saw so many during lunch I figured that for once they must be running on time. I took the elevator up with them, despite the cold, wind, and rain. After 10 minutes or so of no train, I went back down to the truck. John, in his shorts! and William stayed up there, waiting for the train. The train was about 30 minutes late, but they did get to see it.
We then continued on to the Nixon Presidential Library. It was free day. Nuff explanation.
William decided that he was a big boy. Too big for his stroller. He wanted to walk. In the free-day crowds. I was excited to go to this Library, because the whole Nixon/Watergate/Vietnam thing is a little vague for me. (I'll admit it...I never much cared for history when I was in school...but know I'm interested!) Let's just say the only thing I leared about Nixon was that he was married to a gal named Pat. That's it.
We left very soon after getting there due to William being cranky and running all over the place. It's hard to discipline in a public place, so he made us look like idiot parents. We don't like looking like idiots.
Guess we'll have to go back without him!
