William says prayers at night. He always starts off with, "Now I lay me down to sleep..." and finishes with his own thoughts. It's always interesting to hear what he says, what's on his little heart.
However, he never, ever fails to pray for one specific person.
Uncle Reid.
He gets to the end of his prayers and he always says, "God bless Mommy, Daddy, Uncle Reid..." and on he'll go. Sometimes he just stops after Uncle Reid and says "Amen." But always, ALWAYS Uncle Reid is included.
Abby?
Not always.
Uncle Reid?
Without fail.
Last night he got to the end of his prayer and before getting to "God bless Mommy..." he paused for quite awhile. I thought he was finished, so I prompted, "Amen." Immediately he whips up his bowed head and says, "But I didn't pray for Uncle Reid yet!"

Oh so cute! I had to forward the RSS feed email I got to Reid and let him know that he's prayed for. I'm sure that he is very grateful for all the prayers for him and his ministry. Please thank William for us! In Will's prayerlist: "Thank you God for eating the food. Amen." (translation: thanks for the food that we eat) Can you see what is important in his life? People don't even make the list.
So, it's little things like this that remind me of the power of God... that he is powerfully at work.
So this morning I did something I almost never do on a Wednesday morning. I broke from my normal routine (which is to begin work on my sermon), and decided to start reading through a book on prayer. The hope was that I could do a sermon on prayer this week, based on some reflections from this book. The book was A Praying Life by Paul E. Miller.
So after getting through the first few chapters, I found myself very encouraged in many ways. The thing that stood out the most was the material about praying like a child. Right after that I get this email from Kim about William praying continually for me. Wow! I guess this is a lesson for us all to learn.. God calls us to come to him as a child; that includes in our prayer life. William has been modeling that unceasing prayer as a child unto his heavenly father. Praise the Lord!
Leah, please let William know how much I appreciate these daily prayers. I'm sure God is answering them, and using them, even as he used them today to encourage me in my own prayer life.

VERY ADORABLE....JOHN WAS 3 WHEN GREAT GRANDMA APPLEGATE TURNED 100 AND AFTER JOHN PRAYED IN THE BACK ROOM AT AUNT IONE'S, HE SHARED THAT HE PRAYED "I WANT TO MEET THE LORD"
AND WE FIGURED HE'D BE A PREACHER...
